Grade A, B or C: what is the difference?

For every refurbished device you choose a grade: A, B or C, and sometimes Outlet. The letter tells you what the device looks like on the outside. It says nothing about how it works, because every device goes through the same test. Below you can read what each grade means, what is the same for all of them and how to choose.

The grades explained

Grade A: as good as new

No signs of use, or barely visible ones. At arm’s length you cannot tell it apart from a new device. The screen is free of scratches.

Grade B: lightly used

Light signs of use on the casing, such as fine scratches. The screen is in good condition. Once the phone is in a case, you will hardly notice them.

Grade C: visibly used

Clear signs of use: scratches on the casing and possibly on the screen, sometimes a small dent. Technically the device is in full working order.

Outlet: works, but without Face ID or Touch ID

An Outlet device works, but without functioning Face ID or Touch ID. You unlock it with your passcode. This is always clearly stated on the product page. The warranty applies as it does for any other device, except for that one limitation stated in advance.

What is the same for every grade

The grade is only about appearance. Everything to do with how the device works and the peace of mind you get is identical for A, B, C and Outlet:

  • The same test on more than 50 points under the Keurmerk Refurbished quality mark: screen, battery, cameras, microphone, speakers, buttons, network, sensors and more.
  • The same battery standard: at least 85% of its original capacity. If it drops below 70% during the warranty, we replace it free of charge.
  • The same 2-year warranty, battery included.
  • The same data wipe: certified, so nothing of the previous user remains.
  • The same software: the latest version the manufacturer offers for that model.
  • The same service: next-working-day delivery when you order before 4 pm, 14 days to change your mind and a free bpost return label.

Because we work under the Keurmerk Refurbished mark, A, B and C also mean the same as they do at the other companies carrying that mark.

How to choose

  • Choose A if you want the feel of a new device, if you do not use a case or if it is a gift.
  • Choose B if you use a case anyway. You get the same device with the same warranty, and the fine scratches largely disappear from view.
  • Choose C if you mainly want a reliable device at the lowest possible price: as a work phone, a spare, or for a child who is not always gentle with it.
  • Choose Outlet if you want the lowest price and do not mind typing in your passcode every time.

Torn between a newer model in grade C and an older model in grade A? In most cases, go for the newer model. You can see the grade, but the age of the model decides how long it will keep receiving software updates.

Frequently asked questions

Does a grade C device work as well as a grade A device?

Yes. Every device goes through the same test on more than 50 points and comes with the same 2-year warranty. The grade is only about appearance.

Does a grade A device have a better battery?

No. Whatever the grade, the battery has at least 85% of its original capacity, and if it drops below 70% during the warranty, we replace it free of charge.

What is an Outlet device?

A device that is technically sound but has no working Face ID or Touch ID. You unlock it with your passcode. The limitation is stated in advance and is not covered by the warranty.

Are the scratches on a grade B or C device covered by the warranty?

No. The grade is a characteristic you know before you buy, not a defect. The warranty covers how the device works.

Can I send a device back if I am disappointed with its condition?

Yes, you have 14 days to change your mind. Report your return through the contact form first and you will receive a free bpost return label.
